This is the first summer specific beauty collection I have featured here and it feels kind of nice! As I write this, it is a GORGEOUS and sunny day in Vancouver with the temperatures sitting at a comfortable 26 degrees complete with light breeze. Nothing like being in a heat dome AT ALL! My reward for finishing this post will be to sit on the patio with my new book "Midnight Library" in my sundress, hat and sunscreen (of course!), but for now let's dive into some new summer products from Mary Kay!
Limited Edition Timewise Moisture Renewing Softener and Makeup Remover Rounds*
This is what Asian skincare refers to as a "softening toner" and early on in my skincare career, it was explained to me that in order for your serums, actives and moisturizer to work effectively, skin must be damp. The analogy that was shown to me was a dry sponge vs. wet sponge and that visual never left my mind! While this particular product is marketed as a way to remove makeup, I do not view toners this way and believe that cleansing should happen with an oil followed by a cream/gel cleanser. To complement this skin softener are some extremely plush reusable microfiber rounds that come with their own washable mesh bag. They can be washed up to 200x and are also suitable for removing eye makeup.
Limited Edition Body Care Set in Sparkling Cherry*
They say that to really make a scent last on the skin, layer the same body lotion and spray and while I am sure someone else would enjoy this scent, I am not a huge cherry person and overall found this duo to be on the sweet side. With top notes of juicy black cherry, sparkling mandarin and pink rhubarb, this strikes as a definite summer scent, but maybe for someone younger? Fragrance is so personal so if you like sweet, fruity scents this might be a duo you would enjoy!
Limited Edition Eye Blending Brush Organizer Bundle*
While I wouldn't call Mary Kay's brushes my favourite, they do perform solidly and this year there is a brand new eye blending brush and brush organizer which keeps your favourite brushes upright and ready to use. I can see the advantage of having one of these if you just use a few brushes regularly, but I use a little IKEA flower pot to store my brushes and prefer that.
Unlimited Lip Gloss*
Two new shades of Mary Kay's Unlimited Lip Gloss are out for the summer coming in: Confident Pink and Hopeful Lilac! The day I can comfortably wear lip gloss again, I think Confident Pink will be the one I wear more as it layers well with nude lipsticks and isn't quite as bubblegum pink as it looks in the photo. These two lip glosses support the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation with $1 from each sale being donated.
Limited Edition Pink Eye Quads in Cool and Warm Pink*
I was actually a little surprised to see shades like this in a summer collection, but after playing around I realized how perfect they really were! Rose gold has been one of my FAVOURITE shades to wear in my eye lid this summer and these to palettes let you do it all! You can stick to just one palette or mix and match which is what I ended up doing. The metallics swatched a bit more smoothly than the mattes, but nothing I could not work with.
I prefer the shades in the Warm Pink Palette more so the look below features the rose gold and copper shades plus the shimmery red from the Cool Pink palette on the inner corners of my eyes.
